European Committee of the Regions
The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is an assembly within the European Union. The members are repsresentatives of the regional levels within the EU. The CoR therefor sees itself as the stakeholder of the local authorities and makes sure, their concerns and ideas are heard within the instutional framework of the EU in Brussels.
The representative of the Free State of Saxony is State Minister Thomas Schmidt. He is a member of the assembly, takes part in all plenary sessions and works with various committees.
He is a member of the Commission for Economic Policy (ECON), of the Commission for the Environment, Climate change and Energy (ENVE) and chair of the Automotive Intergroup (CoRAI). In 2022 State Minister Schmidt took the role of rapporteur of the Committee of the Regions in regard to the European Chips Act, an initiative of the European Commission.
